Thanks Carsten, David, Sarah, Lannie, CHiPs, Wilson and Jan Olof!

Carsten yes hand-held. I think the surreal effect is partly the hand rails and also the very bright colours of the fields which do not quite match the sky colours we would expect to see.

David, you are right - I do have a thing about bridges!

Sarah, thanks, there is quite a bit of detail partly due to my taking Carsten's advice and shooting in RAW.

Lannie, thanks, It was reasonably safe as long as I did not step off the planks. I nearly lost a lens though!

CHiPs - a crossing to 2006 - nice idea!

Wilson, Jan Olof, Merry Christmas to you too and my best wishes for you in 2006.

Very nice, Colin! Everything comes together and makes this work very well, as mentioned by many others.

Very attractive scene - I like what Cherlyn has to say about this shot, Colin. Nice work and thanks for posting. Merry Christmas to you from all of us here in New Mexico.

What a dream to have horse and rider trot by, if I had been there it would have been a muckspreader knowing my luck - can they throw it that far? :D

Great light, colours and details in this magnificent picture, Colin. The bridge looks endless and so small (would suits very well in a nightmare) but it is worth to step on it because it leads the eye to a wonderfull scene and it forces my eyes back again. For me the bridge makes this composition so very particular and attractive. It's a real eye-catcher.

I wish you and your family a very Happy and Healthy New Year Colin in which you will be able to continue your wonderful work. Warm greetings, Ada;~)

Happy New Year, Colin! I ditto all of the comments above, especially about you being the wide-angle expert! You're still making me contemplate getting the 10-22 instead of the 17-85. Hmmm.... Anyway - had you not gotten the rider, the image would have been too centered for me. The rider gives it just the right balance. Love the sky!! :-) SOOOOoooo - what happened to that fabulous portrait on your bio page? Will we get it back after the holidays? :-D

What a balance between the tree and the rider, plant and animal, sky water and earth, nature and engineering, the bridge joints them all. Very original and aesthetic.

My thanks to you all for your kind comments.

Sarah, thanks and I look forward to following your travels in the coming year.

Kim, my best wishes to you too for 2006 and keep shooting those birds.

Gaetan, thank you and my best wishes to you too.

Richard, my best wishes back to New Mexico from the UK.

Denis, a happy new year to you.

Ben, happy new year. I was surprised by the horse as well. I look forward to seeing all your muckspreader shots!

Ada, my thanks to you. I am pleased you like the bridge. I thought it look a bit dream-like too. My best wishes to you and your family for the new year.

Lou Ann, thanks for your comment. I agree about it being too centred minus the rider. Now - you can't hold me responsible for your lens choice :-) and I think your natural way of seeing is a longer perspective than mine. (Think of the poor late, lamented 50mm). The bio shot will reappear once Christmas decorations come down which will be Twelfth Night - Jan 5th - or maybe sooner if I can get out of paying my son royalties for it..

Manolis, a pleasure to hear from you, how are you? Is the sun still shining upon you in Greece? I am glad you like the shot as I thought it has something a little out of the ordinary. My best wishes for the New Year.

Very beautiful composition. I like the symetry here, specially with the rider, symetric with the tree. Happy new year to you.

OOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHH, Colin - I BOUGHT a new 50. A friend had a new one, and decided that he wanted to replace it with ... um, I'm not sure because I stopped listening after he said, "I'll sell you my new 50mm." Yeah ... for less than what they'd go for on eBay or the store ... and I used it a LOT with my nephews at Christmas. You might just see a couple of those shots here eventually! :-) I actually DO like wide-angled shots, you know ... but when there are wide-open spaces. Which is NOT at all descriptive of where I live. Maybe a springtime trip to Colorado will be proof for you! :-) Happy New Year!

Thank you Henri - and a Happy New Year to you too.

Lou Ann, glad you were able to pick up another 50mm. But the image of your previous one bouncing down the steps will stay with me! It is a good portrait/indoor lens. Looking forward to your nephew/Colorado shots with whatever lens you used. Gill, Matt and myself may get to Switzerland again this springtime. regards - Colin
