tom t 0 Posted December 16, 2005 Not all that convergent in my book. That said I like it a lot. Very moody. Very wintery. Suggstions: get the crop to a perfect square. Also get rid of the ugly black border things (is this a scan?). And I would suggest upping the contrast a bit. Things like the tree branches (middle/left) are hadrly visible now - I would either like to really see those, or not see them at all. In all, very interesting shot, room for improvement (which can be easily done in post-processing) and themefit so-so. Regards, TOm Link to comment
robidooo 0 Posted December 16, 2005 I agree with Tom on the idea about the square format. It would give more power to this shot I think. I do find the light right in the middle to be distracting, because of its strength and because it is in the middle! It is a little literal, but the traffic seems to converge in the same way, so I guess the theme fit is there for me. Maybe not extremely strong, but it is there. Link to comment
pt2 0 Posted December 16, 2005 I do not know why it is not square. I'm still new to the whole digital darkroom, but I didn't change the dimensions of the shot. This is a scan of the full negative, the black border is the edge of the frame. I'll repost it when I get a chance, but it probably won't be until Sunday Link to comment
robidooo 0 Posted December 16, 2005 You know what, it is square! Except that the border is not the same thickness everywhere. Maybe this is what is causing us to see it not square. But this photo is 500x500. Link to comment
htc 0 Posted December 17, 2005 the focus seems fine to me; maybe it was stormy? Theme fit is not clear to me; but i like the picture. I would like to see it color. As downsize, the bright light dead centered ruins it. Link to comment
rkynast 1 Posted December 17, 2005 I'm with Tom T - I really like this photo; dramatcally portrays a very cold winter scene. Very well done. Thanks for posting. Also with Tom T in that it is not a theme fit for me, though in this case it really doesn't matter. Congratulations. Link to comment
seven 0 Posted December 17, 2005 I like the sense of motion conveyed. The central bright light is distracting. One can read Convergence into this - consider space-time, and how some of the different bodies depicted here will occupy the same space at different times, separated by a fraction of a second (e.g. vehicles travelling in the same lane.)I'd prefer more contrast - and that light in the middle to be burned down.Interesting interpretation, PT. silvertip 0 Posted December 19, 2005 I'll pipe in with a hearty well done PT. I too like the photo.I'll also scratch my head on the convergence part.Chuck Link to comment
dominiquedodge 0 Posted December 22, 2005 I like the photo PT: what you have done with the motion blur and the wintery mood very well captured. Traffic whizzing to the right as well as the branches of the tree and the slanting snow blown that way. Although it feels convergent, if all these folks are rushing away to their individual homes (see the lights in the buildings at the back) then there's also divergence (we converge in traffic but then diverge into our boxed up homes). Nice opposition. Link to comment
