Very effective! The hands and calligraphy are beautiful. I guess you chose your composition carefully - at first I thought there might be too much space to L, but now I think it fills the void of the missing body very well. I think it might be even more effective if the hand were actually in the midst of writing the document, rather than hovering in a slightly posed manner, though it adds a more contemplative mood to the image this way. The lighting is perfect.
