You posted this a few days ago. I said I liked it then and I'll say I like again, but I still am interested in knowing what you used to achieve this effect, if you would be so kind in sharing details. Thanks ~Will

Thanks for commenting again Will. Post processing was done in Photoshop. There isn't that much to tell. I played with levels pushing the highlight end up until I lost the skin detail. Then I tweaked the midtone slider to darken the details I wanted. I think I was just fortunate to get a great expression. Obviously I opted for a very tight crop. A little sharpening too was needed.

Thanks Martin. I like this concept. I don't think it's creepy, as the other William stated. I think the tight crop works well with this effect. Will

Thanks for your comment Josiah. Maybe you could crop it as you would like to see it and upload it so we can decide if it is better? Regards, Martin.

Hmmm... I'll bet you already tried a different crop...

Is your post the face of a "cherubic child" or maybe an "evil dwarf?"

My problem with your image is the ambiguity of the jagged teeth juxtaposed with the innocent, wide eyes with big pupils. In the absence of other facial clues, I am "unsettled. The "blown" highlights have removed contour, shading and, consequently, shape. Think of the "Cheshire Cat..." the face seems to me to be "floating..."

But... what do I know?

Beautiful child.

PS: The word "success" appended to the image refers only to the process of "upload" success... I was having a little trouble with uploading.

PPS: I wonder if this image doesn't underline the intrinsic problem with the digital manipulation of portraits... It's trite but people like people who look like people... digital manipulation can so easily become excessive.

Josiah. Thank you for posting this new crop. For me though it is not an improvment. But I would be interested in hearing others opinions. I understand your concern with the image however. I felt that this slightly 'edgy' feel could add to its originality? Thank you again for your feedback. Martin Paul.

I agree that it is NOT an improvement...

Mammals are "programmed" be attracted to young mammals. Every "feature" seems to be part of the whole...

For example, I miss the "bridge" of his/her nose...

Would you post the "original" image... i.e. before you PS'ed it?

I like the crop better, certainly a striking image.

(you might want to look at my image I posted this week , title is "Fuelling the dream" . It is in the Enigma folder)

I've only been actually participating in "photo.net" for a week or so...

I am genuinely intrigued by the "interconnectedness," for want of a "better/real" word, among photographers who appear to like one another's work...

Anyway... I think the "crop" still needs a "nose bridge..."

This is very close to what I think photography should do. It should make you halt and force you to question or change your vision. Is this expression beautiful? Awful? I don't know and I am not sure an answer is needed.

the teeth, this is a freaky picture. I don't think the super high contrast does anything for the image, except ruin it. I think the portrait would be fine without all the photoshop work.

well I love it. it makes me want to smile just looking at it. beauty is only in the eye of the beholder as they say. I think it would make a lovely canvas. :)
