Clive, The contrasting blue\yellowish colours are the first thing that I see. Also, great quality of light, being low and thus revealing shapes of the major elements and much fine detail. Great depth here with foreground to horizon tack sharp. The alternating bands of light\dark tones also work in a positive way by providing layers of interest. One thing I'd do for sure to make, in my opinion, a stronger image would be to crop out about 1/2 the sky area which, being very strong works to keep my eye away from the foreground and middle ground area where all the nice details are. Pre-exposure, I guess a framing which would include more foreground would satisfy me but now, post exposure, the only option left is heavy sky cropping. Bit of a shame because it is beautiful and the clouds would suffer. The aspect ratio would now lean a bit more toward the pano but that only adds to the feeling of an 'open plains' scene that goes on forever. Great capture in any case. Best, LM.

Thanks Len. I appreciate the detailed comments. I wrestled with the skyline--I have originals with less sky. I am a 2/3s or 2/3s guy and rarely split images like this, but rationalized the final format on a crude 1/3 .. 1/3 .. 1/3 balance of sky, hills and foreground.

I used a polarizing filter and did enhance the yellows a bit in PS to liven it up.

The hills will be there all winter....I'll be back! Hopefully we will get a big snow before winter is done.

Thanks,

Clive

Clive, Don't beat yourself up over an already fine image. My suggestion was a way to (in my opinion) make it stronger. That's strongER! I'd happily hang it on my wall the way it is. Best, LM.
