Panoramic stitch of Trona Pinnacles

aaron l

1/200-F9, JPG fine/lg, 80-400VR, ISO200, sunlightStitched together 17 shots with plenty of overlap of each photo. With a slight falloff at the edges, the merged sky area had to be blended. I used photoshop to do the panorama and blending. It's not perfect but it's not bad for a 17 shot stitch.

This was difficult to do without a pan-tilt head because there were

3 stages of levelling, making it basically impossible to do with a

ball head. The shot was done in manual mode but the shot to shot

sky brightness changed so much swinging around 160 degrees that I

had to balance the brightness anyway and there was still some edge

fall-off at f9.

Nice job, I could only detect a slight transition in the sky near the center. Is that a person on the left? Did you do this in Photoshop or other software? I've gotten the panorama bug also - part of the new fun of digital photography. Keep it up!

Thanks much! I made sure to measure the entire scene in Manual mode and the range of the shot was tough. I used PS to stitch and blend. I've also found that I can't seem to match shots like this below 50mm on the D70. The perspective distortion is too strong. This shot was in the 90mm range.
