Now, Christopher, you KNOW I don't keep track of exactly what I do (kind of like when I bake!). So I went back and tried to replicate it as well as I could remember.

1. Duplicate layer

2. Adjust brightness/contrast - lower brightness, up contrast.

3. "Paint" back original layer with just the deer, leaving the background as dark as possible.

5. Flatten layer.

6. Render lighting effects/Omni on about 28.

7. Adjust brightness/contrast.

8. Go over any areas not completely darkened by using paintbrush.

There you have it or at least close!

Wow, Kim! I love the markings on their faces. I would say it was unique, if it weren't for the fact that they seem to have very similar markings! I love this ... and the darkened background works very well!

Thanks, Lou Ann. What I liked when I took the shot was that they were standing in identical poses and looked the same, too. I have two shots before one of them changed position. This was taken last year and I had posted it then, but deleted after it didn't generate much interest. Changing the background to b&w seems to make it stand out much more.

Not techie enough to critique, I just come to look in awe at what you guys (and gals!) do.

Have to add though, aren't these exquisitely beautiful subjects? How n earth did you get so close, or is it a very long lens?

This WAS a long lens - the 80-400 set at 240mm. See further details in one of the above comments I made to Colin. Thanks for visiting, everyone!

This one is STUNNING! I have looked at this a few times. Excellent job...artistic enhancements that just give this one more awe factor.

I'll send you a print if you want, Bryan. :) Just got through printing this out and I'm going to put it in our Camera Club's Exhibition in February.

It will be in the mail tomorrow, Bryan. I wish I had some Colorlife paper (semi-gloss), but only had glossy paper at the moment. Hope you like it!
