lauren_smith 0 Posted May 8, 2008 The light and composition are all great, but the thing that has me captured is the naming. The Sahara in my head is a dry, desolate place filled with sand dunes. Orange ground, blue sky, and undulating waves of dunes. But this shot, named as it is, says that there's a completely different Sahara unlike my preconceptions. Water! Birds! and I assume this is a dock with a landed boat. What do you need a boat for in the desert? Well, if there are birds and water, then also fish? It's a very sleepy shot, the only action being the waves and the bird in flight. Where are all the people? After a long day, have they gone home? Or is time overtaking a long-deserted watering hole? If someone is fishing, then is there a community to feed? The fact that there is slight action here indicates a greater capacity for life "deep in Sahara". The naming of the picture makes me question my assumptions about the subject matter. I don't think that the picture would have as much impact (though it is certainly a great looking picture) with a different name. Link to comment
