woouw, what a delicate beauty. I love the patterns, the "colouring" (or better said the lack of it). A bit more sharpness would be nice. cheers Jana

Very good find, and excellent theme fit. I don't see a sharpness problem. Compositionally... well it's a pattern, but there are big blobs of almost pure white, which I find distracting. I'm thinking get closer, in an area where you don't have the big blobs, and the overall balance will improve.

Well seen, PT! Great addition to the folder!

PT, This is a good find now that winter is here (at least in the N. hemisphere). However, I prefer the second version more than the first. The water droplets add something more to the composition by providing contrast between two states of water. A closeup of the one of the ice crystals could be something worth exploring.

I have to agree with Jana on both of her points.

I guess I don't see the delicacy, perhaps zoomed in closer to just a few "fronds" would show this better as Tom suggests or maybe if it were sharper and we could see the delicacy of the fronds from this point of view.

Cool abstract of patterns though.

I think it's wonderful, one tiny little bump and it'll be broken, perfectly delicate.

Can't completely relate to this though, down here at the bottom of Africa it seldom gets that cold!!

Cheers

I agree that it could be sharper. I also agree that while the theme fit is great, and the textures and interweaving between the whitish and darker portions of the image are compelling, there's no real sense of overall composition, or discernement of a pattern amongst the features. Best, Jeremy

I prefer the original version and find that the delicate theme is stronger there - although it would be stronger still in supermacro (I'm dreaming of just a few needles).

With the wider view as shown, I agree with Jeremy that there's no real sense of overall composition. I feel the eyes need something to latch onto in the pattern. Perhaps one patch of the fluffy stuff completeley surrounded by the needles, or an isolated patch or needles, or something else still (bird footprint, melted zone, or similar). Or emphasise the contrast between the bluer zones and the yellower zones (like the yellower needles towards the top).

Certainly delicate - and thanks for cooling me down!

I'm one that also prefer the second version of the shot, at least aesthetically. Regarding the theme fit, I think the original is better.

What bugs me on the original shot are the big spots of white as well as the yellowish flakes. But I think this shot would work without those two things. No need to go super macro I think.

I prefer the clarity of the attachment but the delicacy of this. The lack of contrast makes this image almost blend into the PN white - a dark border would definitely assist in having it stand clear.

Developing my response I realise that while it may look delicate, it doesn't feel so for some reason; I feel that perhaps a closer shot might better have served to convey the sense of cold brittleness.

Though I appreciate your interpretation, PT, I find the result a little jumbled - unlike the attachment.

I find the white parts working for me. Allowing the eye to roam around the more delicate parts.

More sharpness and contrast would improve the overall effect...IMHO.

while I like the patterns in the frost and the bits of white that make this like a maze the crystals are working through this just doesnt work for me past a shot of frost. It feels to sterile for me.
