Eastern Townships Quebec (photo adjusted from comments, best I can do for now)

peter_beal1

This photo was taken in a very remote corner of Quebec on a dirt road. There is a church in the background as there always is in every village. I had to take this quickly as the cows decided they would wonder off.

I appreciate your comment Philippe. This was scanned from a print and on this a lot was lost and it is hard to replace it to the original. The original print is very nice. This scan give the same idea though not quite as accurate as the print.

A very nice scene, Peter. However, I have a few suggestions. First, tone down the saturation just a little. Second, the road on the extreme left detracts somewhat from the composition as it is so close to the left edge as to be a distraction. In art terms, it is vibrating off the edge. Perhaps moving a few feet to the left and aiming the camera a little to the right would have corrected this. You have some lovely diagonals to work with. This is indeed a very beautiful place!!! I hope you do not mind my critique.

Thanks for the comments. I believe if I eliminated the road you would loss a sense of depth, try covering it with your hand. Also dealing with cows they tend to be on the move and you can't go back and ask them to poise again. They were wondering off as it was. Thanks

Even if the cows have gone home and refuse to pose again, certainly the scanned file (or the print itself) has remained still. You could try cropping there.

I personally like the oversaturation, but that's just my taste. Covering up the road with my hand still produced quite a pleasing photo.

I don't think that the cows make or break the picture. What I am enjoying while observing is the picturesque valley with a village in the distant background. Keep Shooting! Bill Magee

Lovely scene peter. Again the composition is as it should to me, the road is an important component and the cows well, they are where they use to be arent they?

The only point I have is minor and it has to do with the colour. I think you can still improve this picture in balancing the colour of the grass, and dajust toward less yellow and you will have a perfect image (to my taste). I hope my comments are constructive.

Peter - I think you are correct about the road. I can't seem to come up with a workable crop that removes the road. It is very close to the edge, but I see no way to improve the photo by removing it.
