kory1 0 Posted November 10, 2007 Justin took the words right out of my mouth. This photo IS a teriffic composition with great light, but, for me, it's ruined because the exposure blending is overdone. Thus, the photo has that fakey "HDR look". An untrained eye often misses it, but for those who know about HDR blending it is obvious in this image. The halo above the rock horizon line on the left is a dead giveaway. Perhaps if you tried re-blending the image using images that have closer dynamic range to each other it might look more natural. An even better idea, though, probably would have been to use a GND Filter. Many times, skilled use of a GND filter gets results that just can't be gotten by blending exposures. And it definitely takes less time! All in all, it's still a good image with amazing potential. I'd love to see you post a reworked version. Link to comment
zigzag 0 Posted November 10, 2007 It's a nice scene, well done as it is and can be improved further. The transitions at the horizons and rocks would be better done using 'old fashioned' digital blending and limited contrast masking, blending everything actually loses drama and moves towards 'plastic' as sharp local contrast is lost.
