I like the colours PT, though I do so hate clowns! I'm hesitant to criticise the composition as I realise this is street work with attendant time constraints; I'd prefer the space between fg clown and RH side of frame closed. Though the bg is a tad distracting, which fact might call for shallower dof, I find it informs the viewer of context (e.g. I see a Father Xmas hat.)

Assignment is probably met - all fun & games - and adds a splash of colour to the folder.

Well Seven... I won't hesitate to criticize the background here. I agree it provides some context, and I don't think more DOF is really needed. The main gripe I have are the 2 clowns in the background; I find the overdose of colors a bit too distracting.

That said, I don't hate clowns and I like the shot. What I find funny is that the clowns looks like a dirty old unshaven man! As for improvement I would crop *a lot*, or get closer and wait for a moment where no distracting other clowns appear in the background.

Just some thoughts of course, feel free to disagree,

As Tom said. Maybe a little too much colors! Otherwise, I do like the DOF as it is and I think it would be improved overall without the two other clowns in the background.

One think that is more bothering me is the position of the clown hands. I find that it would be better if we could see more what he is doing.

Theme fit is ok. I guess one must love it to go parade in the streets like that!

I left a comment right after my first one but seems like it didn't register so here it is.

I hate clown but i like to hate them very much...

I agree with seven about the bussy BG and personally i would crop it portrait or square format to get rid of the unwanted part and bring more attention to what that freak, oups, i mean... that nice clown is doing!!

Seven my friend you made me laugh my short out!

Hope kinky is in a good mood!

and i hope this is not a cover blowing episode we are witnessing here!

It's a fun shot PT, I agree that it adds some badly needed color to the folder. I have no problem with not seeing the hands, it's a freaking clown... you don't see his face, he's got a fake smile like most clowns. Apparently in PT's town they hire homeless men as clowns so I question the theme fit here. Could they do it "just for the free meal"?

I'm undecided about the 2 clowns in the background. Yes, it's an awful lot of red for one shot, but wouldn't the composition feel a little unbalanced without them? Perhaps PT has another shot of that crowd that he could use to remove the offending clowns and see what it does. Or desaturate it, call it street photography and you'll get praise for your documentary shot on how low one can get when one really needs a hot meal.

PT, this is a good one. As far as the composition goes I am fine with the two clowns in the background as they provide context. The colors are great and vibrant. The only thing that isn't obvious to me is the theme fit. Aren't there professional clowns? Wouldn't that change things a bit?

Thank you all for comments; the picture was taken at the Santa-Clause parade so PT doubts that they were homeless.

I neither hate nor love clowns. But I do like the photo. Nice burst of colour and the rim lighting on the crazy wig is great. Well managed exposure/colours/sharpness.

The two clowns in bkg are fine; in fact I think they add to the context and balance the composition very well. I would just trim the right edge, and also the left edge (to get rid of the lady with blond hair). If PT's not against some digital manipulation, a very subtle touch of desaturation on the bkg clowns might help. I'd be tempted also to darken the bkg highlights, if possible to do so and still keep it realistic.

I like the background clowns and the background quite a bit, though not too sure if the guy on the far right by the tree is holding a camera, which I think could damage the atmosphere. Where I have a problem, and I'm sure this is entirely from a personal perspective, is with the detail and expression on the face of the foreground clown. He looks enraptured by what he's doing, which fits the theme nicely, but he just looks plain freaky to me, so as a viewer, I don't want to identify with him. I've been wondering what the scene would have been like if the foreground clown was also shot a little OOF, maybe with more of his body in the image? I think it could be easier to get the atmosphere, and the play on 3's would be stronger but ... not my shot. Best, Jeremy
