"Sitting Over The Sea's"

Established in 1916 and known as the "House of the Sun", this 27,284-acre national park is considered Maui's main attraction. The Hawaiians recognized the mountain as a sacred site. The park comprised the base and summit of the 10,000-foot Haleakala, the world's largest dormant volcano, covering half of the island's mass. It is said that the entire island of Manhattan could fit into Haleakala's crater. There are two major destinations within the park; the green and tropical Kipahulu Coast and Kaleakala Summit. Kaleakala contains a vast array of microclimates and landscapes, ranging from an arid, desolate, and lunar atmosphere at the crater, to lush rainforest at the base. Rich...wb2lfy@msn.com
