imaginator 0 Posted December 10, 2001 This is a great subject, and a good reflection always adds alot to an image, but the hardest part is avoiding the common centered composition... not that this shot is bad at all, just kinda "generic". I find myself doing this also (it's hard to force yourself to look for unususal angles and camera positions). Be creative: think in 3 dimensions... don't be concerned with whether the composition is physically possible, just "imagine" that you can "float" through the air, and visualize what the camera would see from that viewpoint, then consider what it would take to actually achieve that composition. Sometimes it can't be done... but at least you opened your mind to possible variations in composition/camera angle. This can be done without even using the camera (once you have a good feel for the focal length used). We often tend to setup in a comfortable, straight-on, squared-up and centered position and forget to be creative and original... Link to comment
Brian 836 Posted December 10, 2001 The shot is great. I don't think you could avoid a centred subject here. The only thing missing is sky detail. I know that's a whole other problem, and you were right to see this opportunity and take it. The symmetry has a calm effect, and overall it is a very pleasing image. Link to comment
