EDITORIAL PHOTOGRAPHY.

This photograph was made for editorial reasons,and it was also

published in my book The Aesthetics of Photography that i wrote 14

years ago.It was shot in the studio and the background is a canvas

that i painted with an electric paint sprayer.

Less depth of field would have made this an excellent photo as opposed to a good photo. Less detail in the rich wrap would lend more intrigue. I like the backdrop, and she's really beautiful. The small aperture reveals too much detail and detracts from her mystery.

First off, excellent photo; expertly lit and technically superb. I'm a bit torn with regards to the depth of field issue that's been brought up by others in this thread. I can say that the backdrop is a nice one; it has an interplay of tones and an attractive painterly feel about it. However, as someone who likes the concept of studio-quality lighting without the obvious visual indication that the shot took place in a studio (as in this photo, it is clear that a backdrop was used in a studio) I would also argue that, had your opted for a shallower depth of field, the shot would look less studio-esque. And I do think that much of the tonal interplay found in the backdrop would be retained - albeit with much less detail, had a larger aperture been used. Bottom line, it's still a great shot.
