tom t 0 Posted November 20, 2005 Theme fit certainly OK, and a good idea. Execution so-so I'd say. I see vignetting around the corners (or was that intentional?). And also a hint of barrel or fisheye distortion? There seems to be smudge on the lens (like top/left) - or is that my monitor. I think I would prefer more DOF here, and some more contrast. I think execution could be improved by moving a little bit further. Desaturating a bit might also help - it's very orangy right now. I think this idea certainly merits some more experimentation. Did PT have other shots like these - if so I would very much like to see them. Sorry for all the comments - but feel free to disagree, Tom Link to comment
ralton 0 Posted November 21, 2005 You've certainly gotten in close, and the subject fits the topic (unless it's of a "thick skinned" person...). Maybe try close the apperture a bit, get some more depth of field - You'll need to slow the shutter down but that should be ok with a "still" subject, and there's no background that needs to be out of focus so the extra depth of field can only improve the all round focus. saddleboy 0 Posted November 21, 2005 I mean... i understand your idea, the paterns are delicate, flesh is delicate, even identity is delicate...but at the same time, you can cut it, scrape it, burn it, what ever, it's always the same!!! it has the propertie to restore itself over the course of a few hours/days.... isn't itweird? to be or not to be delicate? that is the question! Technicaly speaking, i agree with what was previously said but unless you are working with a "real" macro lens, it's hard to do better. I sometimes work with a reverse ring (i assume that's what you used) and understand it's pretty hard to have any control on DOF since you have no control over apperture. In my opinion, this is a fine adition to the portfolio and very theme fit wise but i don't think that without the proper tools (lighting and lens) to make it stand out this image would make it outside this assignment. seven 0 Posted November 21, 2005 Unusual subject matter _ I like the interpretation for no specific reason, and accept that vignetting is almost necessary to provide some form of contrast. I feel this could be executed a little better, and I'm thinking of.....a drop of blood! Link to comment
dominiquedodge 0 Posted November 24, 2005 Everyone is assuming this is a finger or human skin. Yet we dont see the usual swirls - it looks fishy to me: could this in fact be smoked salmon!? Delicate and not so delicate (smell) ... Link to comment
pt2 0 Posted November 28, 2005 As most of you said this is indeed a extreme closeup of a finger. The shallow DOF is a result of using an inverted lens on a didgicam as somebody mentioned. It is exteremely hard to get a significant DOF using this technique (if intereseted look for Mark Plonsky on google). Seven your idea about a drop of blood sounds good will try it out sometime. Thansk for your comments. Link to comment
