tom t 0 Posted November 19, 2005 Nice idea, but photographically a bit strange. Compositionally you have too much dark on top. Also, I see little or no detail in the darks upthere. And although there is plenty of black in the shot, the lightest tones are very grey. I would go for a different composition, or a crop, and up the contrast. Good thinking - I would not have thought along these lines! Tom Link to comment
robidooo 0 Posted November 19, 2005 I also like it. Neat idea. And I find also a second interpretation of it because of one of the magnet. Taking life insurance because of the love of your kid, PROMOTUEL being an insurance company I think. Being like that in the center of your composition make me believe that it was intentional. Aesthetically, I think I would have clone out the bottom left photo as well as the "Frigidaire" oval sign on the middle left. I do find it is a little busy, but at the same time, it express well how people fridge look when it is full of photo of the important one. Also, maybe a little more work in photoshop to make the fridge look white would increase the contrast with the photo and, IMO, make it look better. Overall, a nice addition to the portfolio. jeremy freeland 0 Posted November 22, 2005 I like the idea, because so often what we do for the love of it seems very everyday on the surface, but goes much deeper. I also like that the eye is very quickly drawn to the two centre shots of the child where their face is very prominent, then to lower shot, and then to the shot of the adult with the children. But I agree that all of this action seems to be happening in the lower part of the frame, and the upper part, in contrast, holds less interest. I also find the tones a little murky - maybe a little more light in there or other work on these would be helpful? (Incidentally, the right hand pic of the kid in the hat with his hand coming up to his face looks like a good one.) Best, Jeremy Link to comment
dominiquedodge 0 Posted November 25, 2005 Somewhat weird yes, but I like the way the photos appear to glow. If the insurance co. is part of the message it should be clearer, but that would spoil the aesthetics. If the intention is to show the collection of snapshots on the fridge I think it would be better if the magnets were less distrating. Composition could be improved by tidying up the edges or getting closer to the central group of photos which are the most appealing. Link to comment
pt2 0 Posted November 25, 2005 Thank you all for your comments, The idea was: For the love of photography or "Because" of the love of photography. We, as photographers, aesthetic in mind spend quite a big deal of time and effort composing, aranging, seting, making, post processing our photographies and in many case the prints end up being part of such a mess on a frige door...At first i wanted to display the photos a little to make for a better composition but i finaly decided to keep them the way they are to support the idea. The overuse of photoshop was also part of the concept, i wanted that shot to scream "photoshop" the idea was to bring to mind the efforts one have to put in post processing a photography to make it succesful, and most of us just do it: for the love of it Link to comment
