Hey there Charles! I love monarch butterflies, but capturing any butterfly holding still enough for a photo is difficult. Your photo is just a little bit blurry, and there is some distraction behind the wings that maybe could have been cropped out. I may do a workshop on this tonight when I get home to my laptop...sharpening it, cloning, and then putting it through Neat Image to see what I can come up with. I enjoy digitally manipulating photos to attempt to make them appear the way the photographer originally intended and desired for them to look. Hope you don't mind. I'll post the result, if it seems to be an improvement at all. Check out my monarch http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=4180549&size=lg it's also a little blurred, probably because I had to zoom in from a distance. She/he was holding still for me, but I couldn't get closer. You have a very nice portfolio...I'm gonna go look some more!

Thanks Joy for your interest in my work. This shot was taken with my 70-300mm macro lens. I was only about 5ft. away hand holding it inside a butterfly garden with a big canopy made of a soft screen-like material, which gives the appearance of a green background. My focus for this shot was on the wing structure, instead of the normal head area. I also was trying to keep an eye on my 1 and 3yr. old girls. Go ahead and knock yourself out, if you think you can improve this image.
