FilmPhotography-DuaneHorne 0 Posted October 29, 2005 I had just attend worship services at the First Presbyterian Church in Germantown, when I decided I would go to the park, which is situated just behind the church to take pictures. I saw this woman walking from one corner of the park to the other. After about an hour taking other photographs, I noticed her again. On an impulse I captured this image. Afterward, I seemed to notice other homeless people and took a few more images of them. Moments later I felt a tinge of guilt. I was out in the park to enjoy my hobby, with my expensive cameras and gear, and here is this poor soul walking aimlessly away, with no place to go. I know we are not supposed to make political statements on photo.net, but I could not stop thinking, that in such an affluent society, which is spending billions fighting a war in Iraq, how could we allow so many of our own citizens to live without shelter, medical care and the basic necessities of life; how could we let our own live without dignity. Your thoughts please on the photograph. Link to comment
antonio_giacomini 0 Posted March 1, 2007 I like the composition, the black and white choice and the small depth of field that helps us to focus on the main subject. Link to comment
birteragland 1 Posted February 8, 2010 How much I agree with you, that a country that spends billions on wars allows people to live like this.I go over your way quite a bit and have done many like this as well.It really astounds me that this happens in such a wealthy country. My son by the way who is American by choice seems to think that they put themselves there, and off course thinks I am a total embarrassment.Well done and do more of them.
