A very nice picture, I like of course the contrast in stil and moving, but also the rhyme between the stairs and shapes of the chair. And telling or questioning content of the picture, what is gooing on here???

 

Thers is always something to moan about, for me is that the shadow on the right side and the strange greenred under the chair.

Thanks Mike, If you look closely you will see that the right side shadow is a continuation from the upper side shadows. The green under the chaire was the way I have found it, and decided to leave it as its flower is matching these of the chairs, as well as it is not expected to be there....

Just found your picture thanks to Five. Splendid idea - I think everything I would say has already been said! Even the light shadows contribute to your composition! But what's that red flower on a green background doing under the armchair?

I have also just found your work through Five and I'm so happy I did! What a wonderful body of images you have...I should have gone to bed long ago, but here I am still looking :) As for the comment on women taking their shoes off when they get home, I agree...I'm the first to kick them off! So...maybe we should look at this differently...the lobby of a hotel, a woman hurrying up the stairs to a lover? Just a thought. :)

As for the serious side, I think the composition is just right, the angle of the chair leads the eye to the stairs and the woman and her motion leads your imagination from there. As you can tell from all of those who've commented here, this whole image has captured the interest and appreciation of many. Well done!

Well, very Pnina, I always like these kind of pictures from you. This one is a kind of sexy too.

Browsing around in your portfolio this morning I came across this bright jewel. I love this type of image of yours, with many layers to the composition as well as to the plot or story. As has been mentioned there is a certain sexiness to that foot and ankle. The blur implies a rush to be top the top of the stairs. The shoe and dress look to be the attire of someone who should be descending the stairs for night on the town, not someone going upstairs. Perhaps the night is over? Perhaps it is midday and the lady has just realized she has forgotten an important item upstairs and has to rush to retrieve the item as she is running late ? All the scenarios this shot can imply are one of its strengths.

 

The quality of light here is quite lovely. It feel like natural light through a window or skylight. The long soft shadows falling down and across the white wall and onto the floor give depth and texture to the flatness of both. The contrast between the light striking the wall in front of and behind the stairs, makes the stairs themselves,jump out from the other whitish tones in a most effective fashion. I love how the colour of the dress matches the upholstery of the chair.

 

Trying to break this image down in order to understand what makes it so appealing has made me realize how much more the sum is than the total of the parts.

 

Over the winter I have been working on ways to combine both motion and stillness in the same photo and I have come up with a number of techniques to experiment with. This morning I look to this image and see that you have a fine example of a great way to deal with the dilemma I have been working on resolving :)

I really thought you have decided to stay longer with the fish....;-))

I think that what you wrote about "how much more the sum is than the total of the parts. " really sums it up.

 

It was composed from a huge display of ellements and was hard work bring it to this composition.

I used it for an exhibition that dealt with new front and back cover to old books, and was exhibited in the main library in

Tel-Aviv.

 

I will upload it for you.

 

As it is in Hebrew I will explain it.

 

The book is a theater play, called "women at the tope". The old cover is seen on the R . the middle is the back page that was empty and I wrote what it is all about, and about the woman that wrote the play. The L side is my new cover.

 

An aricle in the paper wrote about it with some other original works exhibited there.
