Landrum Kelly 64 Posted November 5, 2005 He's surfing the web, and she announces, "I'm going to bed." Reminds me of a Spanish proverb: "A la mesa y a la cama, una sola vez se llama." One is only called once to table and to bed. The invitation might not come again. --Lannie Link to comment

salvatore.mele 1 Posted November 9, 2005 I am late at the party since I had missed this shot when it first came out. Glad I saw it now! I find it one of your finest shots (together with the walking little soldiers, the little girl at the memorial and the bird-on-a-rope): it tells lots of stories while keeping a simple, elemental, number of colours and shapes. From a chromatic point of view, the red is an eye-catcher, we all know, but the great thing is the way everything else is neutral in this place, even the yellow is sedate, and just the red of the chair balances the one of the shoe/dress: this makes the woman and the chair belong, ideally, to the same place and starts building a story. The choice of the shutter time is most correct: I always liked shots of walking/running persons where you have a still shoe and a swinging body. I can only recall two other ones on photo.net (Banned-master GaryHSp's of a walking woman in NYC and harmonist harmonist's marathon runners). I am happy to see this shot, since complements those other two quite strong in my memory where casual shoes or running shoes were used. In this respect, although I like a lot the story-telling composition of the woman-with-stairs-and-sofa, I cannot resist singling out a more elemental crop, which tells no story, but concentrates on abstract movement. I'm curious about your opinion about it. Finally, there is something slightly incongrous to this all, which I would read in the spanish saying mentioned about. In "real" life, the one which is not in the glamour magasines, one would imagine the evening-dressed high-heeled lady to be going down the stairs, for her night out (or dinner party or whatever)...since in "real" life one would most likely get rid of the shoes pretty soon once "back home". In this respect, the incongrous situation makes it a story-telling picture, which switches on our imagination of the circumstances around it. So far so good. Now, what about a study of walking woman in red? I hope you have more shots about it, maybe along the lines of my proposed crop which, I repeat, is not intended as an improvement to this picture, but as another type of motion shots altogether. pnital 36 Posted November 9, 2005 Salvatore, thanks for taking the time to write and suggest.Because of the circumstances taking that image,it is the only one I have, I don't think I will have more, so the other choice can be yours...it is a good crop. I don't know the two photographers? you have reffered to, and I will thank you if you have a link that I can go in, and look. I smiled at the incongruity you find comming home and climbing the stairs with the red shoes.... Well, you know women are unpredictable...Also, going down the stairs is the convention... Another issue, is the internet. We are writing and talking to names.. There are people behind the names, but we don't know them, nor their sensibilities. So what we are approaching are names. I think that when approaching an individual by writing , at least a use of his/her name, gives it a flavor of a personal human contact. You do it only in part... and you are not the only one (" half a consolation" for you...) sometimes I have the feeling that I'm talking to the wall...lol Well, more moving/walking red shoes....? why not, even there are more ellements to femininity. salvatore.mele 1 Posted November 9, 2005 Pnina, the two other "shoes" picture I recall are this one and this other one by harmonist harmonist, and another one by Gary H Sp. The latter was deleted from the site when Gary was banned, due to circumstances which were never made public, so I cannot do a lot to point you to that. Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted November 9, 2005 Thank you Salvatore, I saw harmonist images. and yes, the concept has similarity,I liked them . Pnina Link to comment
