mg 0 Posted February 16, 2006 What I'd be interesting in, would be the reasons that would make anyone want to crop this. Cropping left breaks the golden means, which rule this picture. Cropping at the top seems to result in an odd format, while sacrifying part of the understanding this picture gives me about this amazing architecture. The top part is also important for the picture's balance imo. Someone wrote that the plants were distracting... Well, maybe so, but they don't distract me all that much either: they are not the main subject, quite obviously, and well, they were there, so what's a man to do - punch a hole in the lens...? :-) I tink this is really one of the best architectural pictures I saw on this site - extremely dark and cold, but very effective. Perhaps indeed the silhouette (which adds scale and mood to the picture, imo) could have been a little more elegant, but well, no big deal as I see it... Great shot. P.S: I'd like to know what was in all these black areas on the site, and whether anything was made to disppear using Photoshop or not. Regards. Link to comment
falvarez 0 Posted February 16, 2006 looks like a giant cheese grater and a cigarette! that isn't negative though. i like it! Link to comment
frivera 0 Posted February 16, 2006 Firsto of all, thaks for your comments (with or without croppings ;-) ). I'm going to answer the questions in some comments: - Dhiren: The light was on the ground around the cone. - Landrum: Yes, I'm a woman, but in your comment it's only one letter of difference. Don't mind at all. - Mark G.: There was nothing in the black areas. It was at night and there were some plants, but nothing more if I remember correctly. Some of these plants were darkened. cynthia_mejias1 0 Posted February 16, 2006 I don't understand why some people want to clone out the reality from this image. Those details are what makes the composition more surprisingラthis is actually the real world and not some sci-fi video game landscape. Link to comment
j.lewis.photo 0 Posted February 17, 2006 Nice image, can I ask why you took it in color? Link to comment
AJHingel 127 Posted February 18, 2006 Francisca,I come in very late in this discussion, but contrary to many before me I see this photo as one of the best you have in line with your photo Crossing Lines. Both are in my view exceptionnally clean compositions with simple messages based on the beauty and harmony of forms and colour tones (it is rigth that it would be just as strong in BW, or even stronger). For me the various interpretations of what the shadow is doing or not doing are very relevant for some, but it distracts from the overall impressions the photo so strongly delivers to the viewer. The title, I admit, invites for such efforts of interpretation . For me it is one of these examples where the introduction of animation in clean compositions (pedestrians like here, pets and nudes elsewhere) does not add quality to the photo, although it makes them mre popular. Finally,I agree strongly with those that have argued against cropping: Please don't touch it! It is perfect as Francisco has made it. Well chosen POW. Anders Link to comment

shotokan 0 Posted February 20, 2006 I personally like the sense not only of scale, but perspective: I get the impression the sides of the upright beam will never converge. Nice shot. Link to comment
dcphotog1 0 Posted February 20, 2006 Wonderful image! I love it. Where was it taken? Did you just happen to be there when the person walked by or was it arranged? Very interesting piece of archetecture, I would love to read more details about the photo. Link to comment

frivera 0 Posted February 20, 2006 The place where this photo was taken is the 'Sciences and Arts City' in Valencia (Spain), a place designed by the architect Santiago Calatrava which contains a museum, an auditorium, a planetarium and a aquarium, all conected by artificial lakes and gardens. The place you see are the surroundings of this place. The scene was not arranged, simply I waited the moment when a person passed by. Link to comment
