enigmaphotography 0 Posted October 25, 2005 I've recieved fairly low ratings on other street shots posted to photo.net. That's fine, ratings are meaningless. What it indicates to me is that people have an alergic reaction to reality, which is also fine. I also do fantasy photography in the studio. I'm doing this series of street shots, probably over the next 4-8 months, without even the slightest intent of capturing beauty. The world is a brutal place, and in many non-western cultures, that brutality is worn with pride on the sleeve of the culture. For nearly a decade, I avoided showing it, whether in photography or in print. Then I realized that no one was shooting or showing it. Life is unglamorous, glamor is something added later by a stylist or makeup artist in cosort with a photographer in the studio. Maybe I should call the entire project Life 101. Link to comment
mark_tso 0 Posted October 25, 2005 I'm not sure the framing is really good, but the lighting and colours are great... Link to comment
jam50 0 Posted October 25, 2005 I think you should shoot exactly whatever YOU feel like shooting. Don't let society dictate what you should put out there. I agree that there are a lot of unglamorous places in the world and that certain cultures which I won't name (cough cough USA cough) find much of it repulsive, and I readily admit I fall into that category. But you (we) need to see these things to remind us that this is reality, THIS is the planet we live on, like it or not. I encourage you to go with your creative flow, make it your own, and I look forward to seeing other images from this project. Cheers, James Link to comment
enigmaphotography 0 Posted October 25, 2005 Framing. Yeah, that's a challenge. When I see a shot, I have about 2.5-3 seconds to raise camera and depress shutter before the subject turns tail and runs. I think I'll get better at it, definitely different than medium format in the studio where I shoot about 6 frames in an hours (10 if we're really hoppin'). In all honesty, its just a matter of me pre-framing the shots in my mind faster than I'm used to :-).And James. Thanks. That's kind of where I'm going with these, and I do realize that they have the commercial value of dish soap. So be it. As I get older, I realize that one of my frustrations is how money seems to be the sole motivator of 90% of the people around me :-). Link to comment
greyquinn 0 Posted November 27, 2005 I think that this one is one of the best photos that you have posted. It means something, it says something, and that is the important to me. Appart of that, the light, the colours, everything contributes to power up the meaning of the photo. When you watch it you feel the life and the atmosphere, may be exactly as it was or not, but you feel it. Good Job. Don't think that people are not interested in this kind of photos, just have a look to James Nachtwey to find what is to want to show reality of the world. Link to comment
