mcgarity 0 Posted October 16, 2005 Kim this is not the same bull. To paraphrase a public figure, I misremembered. It was taken in the same general location as the other photo but it was a day earlier. But no matter which bull it was, he was checking me out. I am glad he decided I was not a threat. Guest Guest Posted October 17, 2005 That look he's giving you is funny! How far away were you? Link to comment
mcgarity 0 Posted October 17, 2005 Fairly close. I'm guessing I was about 150 feet from him. A lot of bulls are showing the stress of the rut. The herd bulls have all lost a lot of weight. Last weekend I saw a six pointer with a broken antler from fighting. Thats fairly common. I have seen it a lot, but its the first time this season. I also saw a young whitetail buck with an antler snapped completely off about an inch above his scalp. That surprised me a bit because he was too young and too little to be in contention for breeding rights. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted October 19, 2005 Maybe he was just clumsy :) We've seen a lot of broken elk antlers this fall. a couple of times we've recieved an elk with a broken antler from another bull embedded in its forehead. That's some rough fighting! Link to comment
mcgarity 0 Posted October 20, 2005 Rough fighting indeed. Talk about bad intentions. That must have been quite a battle. I have witnessed two fights this fall, but neither one looked quite that intense. Is this the first year you have seen that? Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted October 22, 2005 No, that was several years ago. We haven't seen one like that this year. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted October 23, 2005 Whoa, isn't he a nice one! Well done, Larry! Glad he didn't think you were after his women :) Link to comment
