I wants this photo to have surreal feeling, so I created a curves

adjustment layer. Adjusted to bring out the highlights on the

gravemarkers and deepen the shadows. Set mode to vivid and blended

opacity.

I sort of see what you're doing here...or at least, I see my interpretation of what you're doing...even without your explanation.

On a personal level, this image is more disturbing for me than surreal. Lots of people might say you need/want more contrast in the foreground, but then you would lose the intent and effect of the image, I think...it would be just another graveyard shot.

So for me, you have achieved your goal with this image.
