Wonderful portrait! I see some very small black flecks on her face--not sure if that's dust or natural blemishes. I'd be curious to see a version of this with the right side cropped very close to her ear--to me the out-of-focus locks of hair detract rather than add to the image.

Thanks B. The small specks are not dust I don't think - she was a little grubby after playing most of the day. I will check lens and sensor though.

I might also lose the right most lock of hair if I did this again.

I like the fact that it seems to catch allot of her personality. Tonally it seems good, but her right cheek is too hot for my taste. Also, cutting the ear in the crop throws the image off balance. Go again, the basis for it is good, now it just needs some tweaking. Regards, D.

This is pure joy and exuberance!! The lighting is luminous and you captured the sparkle in her eyes!!

well, whatever mottershead says, i am not related to you and i think this is marvelous. luminous tones, fun expression, great idea to tilt, wonderful clarity. might dull the left cheek a little bit, but its a total quibble. first rate work paul.

your notes on your film course are hilarious and much appreciated. i haven't the time, money or inclination to venture there. thanks for the vicarious pleasure.

what did you do for light? tripod or not?

Hi Ben, thanks for the compliments. The left cheek also troubles me slightly but I find this happens when usung the Hue/Saturation BW conversion technique. I will look at this again as it looks to have spoiled the shot.

Tilt was as shot with camera on tilt. No tripod. Light was as follows... sunlight comes in direct to our room so I half pull a white curtain and sit the subject in front of the curtain. I then use a reflector (which is far too small really at 18") in one hand and light the face with the sun that's still streaming in past the curtain. Meter from the face and this then allows the background to blow out. Difficult to hold the camera with one hand and shoot but I really need a larger reflector with stand to get more nice light.

Film course should be good fun later in the year although it's difficult having to wait to see shots again. It's more of an excuse to meet and talk with other photographers and also to give me an excuse to take pictures in places where I feel I need an excuse to be at.. Not expensive either at 100GBP for 1 year.

David and Sharon, thanks for the coments and critique. I rushed this one through but will look again at that cheek.

Babble babble...
