potok 0 Posted October 4, 2005 My second version of this photo, converted into black and white as suggested. Better? Please compare to first one. This is inside image of todays gypsy family somewhere in the Balkans. I dont remember their names, but i do remember the potato that the women on the picture cooked for lunch. Any comments, suggestions, critique? Link to comment
arraga 0 Posted October 4, 2005 Well done, especially the interplay/crossing of looks (from mother to subject not shown, from girl to photographer) and the suggestion of an unknown partner. Link to comment
jason_roos 0 Posted October 4, 2005 Yes very well done. Very emotional facial expressions on everyone in the photo. You can almost read something into the way the man is 'hiding' in shadows if that was intentional. Great capture. Link to comment
bens 0 Posted October 4, 2005 yes, i like this version better because the boys face is more in keeping with the others in the foreground and the tones are well done in black and white. his white shirt remains "hot", and i can see its difficult to dull it sufficiently because part of it is "blown out". in a way it serves a good purpose of drawing the eye right to the center of that grouping, and so this is a strong portrait as is. but consider "painting" the shirt gray in a layer and then reducing the opacity of the gray just enough so it does not look artificial; it can help sometimes in such a situation. michaelhills 0 Posted December 5, 2005 Mark, I prefer this interpretation. I like how you have captured their environment as well. There is a pathos here that speaks deeply to me. As a matter of interest, what is the woman looking at? Regards, M :) Link to comment
