Winds Of Change_California Nurses

The California Nurses Association house of delegates made a

resolutions last September 23,2005 at Marriott Oakland Hotel

to continually opposed to the War in Iraq. "California Nurses

Association supports: a just foriegn policy based on international

law that promotes genuine security & prosperity at home and abroad:

an end to U.S occupation in Iraq; adequate psychological & physical

support to returning veterans;the redirecting of the nation's

resources from military spending to meet the needs of the working

families for health care,education,a clean environment,housing & a

decent standard of living; and be it further resolved that the

California Nurses Association will engage in political action,

organizing, and member education towards these goals.

 

This was approved and ratified by the CNA Board & the 2005 House

Of Delegates.

This is a tricky one to critique because the aesthetically compelling part of the photo (the upper two-thirds) has no discernible to reaction to the subject, at bottom. And while part of me likes the touch of whimsy in the bodies of the protesters being replaced by shrubbery in the foreground (bushes against Bush?), I doubt that it was the best representation of the spirit of the occasion or the people involved. So where this one succeeds as a creative, puzzling snapshot, it fails as documentary. The question is, which is your priority?

Actually I chosed this pic because of the clouds

( wind you can see)and the time piece ( running

out of time) and that land mark building reaching to the sky ( billions & billions of $ we spent and counting for this Iraq War not counting the lives it has been wasted so far.) I just wanted to say

something why we,CNA, opposed the war before it was

started and now we still opposed the war but

with resolutions.Not like what happened after

the war in Vietnam,we want not to be repeated.

 

My priority? I guess I got a lot that I failed

to articulate in here.

Well I like it. I cover a lot of demos. Like you I opposed this war and still do. I also oppose globalisation, free trade and imperialism. The so called free west is the real terrorist.

So there's my political reaction.

But why do I like the picture? Well like I said I do a lot of this stuff. You grab the usual shots, the angry shouty stuff, the cute kids etc, then you start to look for something a bit more off the wall, something different, and here you have succeded. My only complaint is that it's a little flat, but I'm sure that can be fixed.

Well done, a good amusing original western demo shot. And go nurses go!

Sally, I think one thing we all agree on is that the aesthetic strength of the photo is in the skyscape. While I mostly agree with your political opinions, what's important here is not *what* the photo is about but how successful it is in communicating that. For example, what the prominent building symbolises to you is polemic in intention, but I don't think a structure designed long before the war and bearing no visible relation to the government can carry the burden of symbolising billions of dollars and countless lost lives, nor can a still image of a clock tower provoke a visceral understanding of the passage of time. I do agree with Gareth's point, though: most protest documents all look about the same, and the sameness dilutes their impact. It's a worthy challenge to find a creative angle on this subject, but in this case I still think the execution falls short of the intentions. My hope is that you'll come up with some images that express your passions vividly enough that they don't need explanations.

that can do what you said but I do not know how.

 

I really does not know what was my intentions for posting this but that I know, I wanted to

let others know that we, the California Nurses,

the Teachers and the Firefighter have the same goals to fight for this coming November 8.
