I love the wide perspective, the feeling of vastness and space - if I had to chose I would vote for the color version.

Cheers

Hi Pnina, where my brother lives you can see for miles around at the surrounding skies, and when I look at this picture I think of sky as in Big Sky Country (that's what I call it where he lives) I like it Pnina, I like it very much. Well Done!

"Big Sky Country" is the official nickname of the US State of Montana, and has been likely since before David was born. The name is derived from a book title about early fur trade there.

The two images convey a very different mood. In the colour, the gren, lively, colour and the stripe of red give the continuation of life and therefore a very transient thunderstorm, which will give way to the sun again. The sepia is gloomy altogether. Strangely enough, in the sepia there is too much sky while the colour version is very balanced. I think this is due to the fact that you need -in my eyes- little bright colours to balance large masses of dark/cold ones. This aspect of the composition is therefore well seen.

Salvator, thanks for analyzing both versions. It helped me to see where the problem in the sepia is.A priory I liked the colored version, but wanted to see the effect on a sepia version. In the original the sky on the right hs, was a little blocked and I have brighten it i bit. on the sepia I thought it looks more dramatic and did not brighten the clouds..I see that it is blocked and I should have brighten it as well.

I appreciate your help. Pnina

I've always wanted to take a shot like this. The enormity of the sky is so well conveyed. Including that tiny part of the land with the green along with blue sky works very well IMO. While the sepia conveys the dramatic mood of the sky, I liked the color ver. more since I could feel the dramatic clouds in the context of green earth and blue sky. Although I remember seeing your name in several places before, I am so glad I took a quick visit today. Need to have lot of time to come back. Just the kind of images I want to take but still haven't...

This is well done. The dark, somber sky dominates the image, as it should, given that it is the most interesting part of the landscape.
