The miles and miles of traffic fleeing from hurricane Rita. Glad I'm

not in it. This is taken off the freeway near my house. We are going

to get with hurricane force winds, but I think we'll be ok.

Great photo! I took a few as well but none as clear as this. I had some trouble getting close enough and since I was on foot it was slightly dangerous as people aren't obeying any traffic laws!

We're staying too...Best to you and your family!

I am a storm chaser from Dallas TX. We were going to leave for the coast today but decided to set this one out. We intercepted Dennis in Pensacola. Are you on high ground? We have been setting up a ham station Call Sign (KB5SNH) here and hope to have radio communication. If I can help in some way send e-mail and let us know you made it. Best Wishes Ken www.stormphoto.net

Thanks everyone for the kind thoughts. Kenneth, I greatly appreciate the info and concern. We live in Humble (20 miles north of Houston) and are on pretty high ground. When Alicia dropped 28 inches of rain on us, we didn't flood. So... I THINK we should be ok. I'm mostly concerned about the winds. We're watching closely. From the traffic, they are advising a lot of folks not to try and leave since there's no where to leave too.

I'll keep everyone posted as best I can.

LOL! No. Not quite this bad. In old days when it was 2 lanes yes, perhaps - especially approaching the Kingwood area.

however, 59 got a major overhaul in recent past and is now 5 lines coming and going. I can make it from Humble to Downtown in 15-20 minutes pretty much any time of day. it's the best freeway in houston.

The photo doesn't really capture the length of the traffic. I didn't have a flat spot that showed the traffic for miles and miles. there were 2.4 million people leaving town from what I heard. It was the crasiest thing I'd ever seen as far as traffic goes which is why I HAD to shoot it.
