I ve been watching your pictures and rating them this one is also a 7/7 pure cuteness... with that been said do you use a gaussian blur recipie or a soft focus filter?

Thanks for the 7's John! I do use a gaussian blur action that I downloaded off of www.atncentral.com. I wish I could take full credit but I have to give props to Dave Jaseck. I just tweak his action a little more to suit each particular photograph. I use it alot because I like the softness on children and it also smooths the skin tones out nicely. Best regards, Emily

This is wonderful Emily. I just feel sorry for her poor mother. She will be broke by the time you finish. How could you not buy a dozen of each of these poses?

Biliana...Thanks for all of your kind comments on many of my photos. You are so kind and helpful to so many of the submitters on PN. Your work is so amazing and inspiring. I am honored that you enjoy my images.

Amber - We share the love of children and I am happy we are communicating. I love the frames that you sent me but haven't sat down to play with them yet. Once I do, I am sure you will see them on some of my postings. Thanks for all!

Kristin - Your children images are beautiful and I look at your portfolio for ideas quite often. I LOVE your swimming pictures and hope to capture the same sort of images with my son's wrestling team this year. At least it will make the long tournaments more interesting when he is not rolling around (he's 6! so it is pretty much rolling around:-))

Derik - Your creativity is awesome as well as your ability to use natural light to highlight the face. I am glad you are posting...keep it up!

Fantastic shot! I do not ususlly like selective desaturation but in this case is so well done and contributes so much to the idea. Lovely portrait, I may guess her parents will be charmed with it. You show the children beauty and tenderness. Of course, I am not qualified at all to tell you anything but I would be careful with the blur effect, to me it tends to be too intense. Just an idea from a newbie!

Emily- This one is perfect! I wish I'd have taken it! :) This one would be a dream to handcolor. Perfect expression, perfect composition, beautiful little girl. Nice one!

Thanks Jayme - glad to see your back on PN. I hope your arm is recovering ok. This little girl was great fun to shoot and I hope to do some more of her in the next few months. When I first played with this I worried about the top of her being cut off but I am glad people like it regardless. I wish I had your talent with handcoloring but my turn out horrible. Thank goodness for the history brush:-)

WOW! This is one of the best children's photos I have ever seen. I don't know when you posted it but I discovered it by looking at Jayme's top rated photos and she was absolutely right on withing giving you a 7/7. I love to learn how to do this. I would give you a 10/10 if I could. Great work Emily.

Well, I just tried rating this a 7/7 but I guess p.net has a stupid rule that doesn't allow me to rate it a 7 because you rated one of my photos a 7 recently. I won't do you the injustice by rating this a 6. BTW, I cannot believe someone rated this a 3/3.

Thanks Will for your praises. They mean alot and keep me motivated. I saw your forum posting about low ratings and at one time I was as frusterated as you but I have learn that it does no good. I chalk up the low ratings - as I think as Jayme once put it - to the weirdos that only like the nudes. I tend to only rate children or portrait pictures unless others really move me and deserve a high rating. I do this just because I feel that I am not qualified to rate photos in digital alterations, still life, fashion, etc. since I do not do that type of work myself. What might be ugly to me might be a complicated piece of art to others. I only pretend to know children. I wish others would follow my example and if they give a low rating to leave suggestions, but they never do. So I gave up. It only matters what you think of your photos since you know the child or natural setting and you know how much work it took or how you felt when you printed it out for the first time. That is truly what matters... I, too was very happy with this photo. Thanks again:-)

This is what I call an excellent child photo both the capture and the treatment... I most say that I think your treatment to this shot shows so much talent and personal touch.... Fantastic colors and light.. And this little model is amazingly sweet... Excellent shot.... 7/7

All my best, Jill
