I know I haven't achieved eye contact here but I am wondering whether

the pictures stands up regardless? Any comments about how to improve

would be very helpful as I am still very much a ham-fisted amateur.

I don't know if "losing the hand" would make this a better photo. I don't think it really matters because everything is contained within those eyes - fear, apprehension, disappointment - maybe just daydreaming. It's a timeless expression you have captured.
