mcgarity 0 Posted September 19, 2005 Bill, Kurt, and Kim Thank you very much for those kind words of encouragement. I was in RMNP hoping to get some bull elk photos during the rut. All of a sudden out of nowhere this guy showed up. I see coyotes all the time in the Park but they normally won't let anyone get too close. He was gone just as quickly as he appeared. I only got two shots of him and this is the better of the two. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted September 19, 2005 Jeez, you had a great weekend out! :) The colors here are wonderful - did you blur out the bush on the far right? It seems as though it's on the same plane as the coyote, but it's blurred which makes it a bit distracting for me - still, it's a wonderful composition. Great capture! Link to comment
mcgarity 0 Posted September 19, 2005 Thank you Kathy. Long time no speak to paraphrase an old saying. That bush was really quite a bit farther away than the coyote. So to answer your question no I didn't blur it. Matter of fact I didn't do anything fancy in post processing at all. I had the camera set to auto white balance. It looked good to me so I just used that setting when I decoded the raw file. In Photoshop I did the USM trick for local contrast enhancement, gave it a slight curves tweek, and used an edge sharpening routine. Thats all I did to it and thats pretty minimal really. You know its odd. Sometimes it is a real struggle trying to capture or record a scene the way I want it. More often than not I really don't know how something is going to look until I get it out of the camera and process it. But once in a blue moon everything comes together perfectly. Its difficult to explain but the moment I touch the shutter I just know that I am going to be happy with the results. Thats the way it was with this photo. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted September 20, 2005 I love it when that happens :) And this is a real beauty - and now, upon closer look, you're right, that bush is further off. Don't know why I thought it was so close. I've posted some new pics too (yeah, about time!) if you care to take a look :) Link to comment
jerry ting 1 Posted September 28, 2005 Larry, excellent capture. I can imagine how difficult and lucky for you to take a shot like this. I wish I could have the chance to see a coyote in the wild. Your latest wild animal uploads are excellent. Link to comment
mcgarity 0 Posted September 28, 2005 Thank you Jerry. I appreciate that. I haven't had much luck in the past getting close enough to photograph coyotes because they are fairly wary beasts. I was just lucky with this shot. This guy showed up out of nowhere and then disappeared so fast it made my head spin. Link to comment
