colin carron 58,916 Posted September 18, 2005 A little girl finding the folk dancing a bit boring. Link to comment
martin. 0 Posted September 18, 2005 Don't we all sometimes. I like the way the red is picked up in the pullover and the dancer's costume.Martin. Link to comment
paula grenside 0 Posted September 18, 2005 She looks bored and a bit sad, too. What an eye, Colin, to capture her. Love shots that tell a story: her face speaks volumes. Link to comment
pjmeade 12 Posted September 18, 2005 Hello Colin, this echos the jester, for me. Another shot where the surrounding people contibute to the story and make the girl seem all the more dejected. Good colours too. P Link to comment
colin carron 58,916 Posted September 18, 2005 Thanks everyone. Paula, you are right when you say she looks sad. I think she had been crying and was just getting herself back together again. Peter, you are right, this was taken at the same time as the jester photo. Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted September 18, 2005 Right - it does echo the jester ... but with less effectiveness. I am distracted by all of the legs, and (I hate to admit this) I don't find as much interest in the child as I do in the jester figure... Link to comment
pnital 36 Posted September 18, 2005 Colin, I LIKE the idea of the legs surounding the girl, gives a "flavor" of isolation from what is going on around her.She is in her world, and does not like the situation, judging her expression, I think all 3 last work of yours is a step forward in street photography. colin carron 58,916 Posted September 18, 2005 Lou Ann, that is ok. I much prefer to know what you really think. Pnina, thanks, I agree about the legs. To me it is part of her child's world that most people are a lot bigger than her. As you say this sort of shot is a new thing for me and I am just taking the first steps. Link to comment
amalsircar 2 Posted September 19, 2005 Colin, very good perspective and light. Captured the dejected mood of the girl well. I agree with Pnina about the legs, but would it not have been better to crop a little more on the left side? Link to comment
colin carron 58,916 Posted September 19, 2005 Amal, I wondered the same thing. The dancer is just a strange shape. I left him in for context but he does not a lot to the shot and the girl would work on her own. Link to comment
rkynast 1 Posted September 19, 2005 A fine series from the festival, Colin, but I think this is my favorite. Thanks for sharing it with us. Link to comment
cherlyn 1 Posted September 20, 2005 The red mickey jumper pulls my eyes in the thumbnail. You have captured a little girl's loss & boredom in the adult world. Nice touch, Colin Link to comment
sef1664877429 0 Posted September 20, 2005 Mickey and the red of her jumper seem to balance out the attention the dancer gets, don't think it needs cropped, and it might lessen the context... or maybe I just like the strange blurry things you're sticking in the edges of these :-) As for the legs... reminds me of Charlie Brown, never seeing the heads of the grown-ups. colin carron 58,916 Posted September 20, 2005 Thanks Richard, Cherlyn and Stephen. Stephen - strange blurry things is right. The crowd was gathered round the dancers in a square and I was shooting across to the other side so strange blurry things became a recurrent theme in these shots! Link to comment
michaelhills 0 Posted September 20, 2005 Colin, a very fine opportunistic capture - very hard to capture successfully. Personally, I feel you have done a marvelous job. The girl's expression, married with the environment, is very emotive. I like the clasped hands too as that speaks volumes. As a matter of interest, did you employ any digital post processing to bring the girl 'out' a little from the rest of the scene? M :) Link to comment
atkphotoworks 0 Posted September 20, 2005 Colin, capturing kids in their moments is always fun and fulfilling, even when the moment is not altogether happy as here. I would keep everything as is Colin. Link to comment
alexandra rauh 0 Posted September 21, 2005 Beautiful sensitive shot.I like how she keeps in her own world. Yes, she makes a picture in itself, but the moving legs shows, there is no attention, But You saw her well Colin. Link to comment
