02Pete 2 Posted November 25, 2006 This is a Bowlus Baby Albatross sailplane on final to land at Harris Hill near Elmira, NY. Comments? Link to comment
k5083 1 Posted November 27, 2006 Lovely. Good to know there are still some of these being flown. I find the colors and lighting not quite striking enough to make this a great aircraft picture but it is still quite a good one. Link to comment
david_ralph1 3 Posted April 10, 2016 Not a critique, per se. You just put a smile on my face. I live literally within five miles of Harris Hill, and some days I can look out my window and see a sailplane or tow plane. I have to admit I have never seen that particular plane in the air before. Thanks for posting. Link to comment
02Pete 2 Posted April 30, 2016 Glad you like the photo. The event was an International Vintage Soaring Meet (IVSM) held at the National Soaring Museum (NSM) on Harris Hill in Horseheads, NY in 2005. Pilots from all over the US, and from some foreign countries, bring older sailplanes to these meets for display and non-competitive recreational flying. One of these IVSM events is scheduled to be held at the NSM from July 9 to July 16 this year (2016).
