in order to not pull the rug out from under the responses to my critique, I won't delete or edit what I've written nor will I change my vote. Let me just tell you that I feel sorry if I was a little bit harsh, especially calling your work "fake" rather than "manipulated". Why didn't I rate aesthetics with a 1? Well, it isn't that bad either. Maybe it takes just one or two alterations in order to make this image work for me. I admit that I am rather traditional when it comes to photography and especially postprocessing and that I can judge the effectiveness of digital illusions only in extremes - either it works for me or it doesn't. But such is my perception and therefor the rating. You may want to see examples where I just love the use of digital composition in order to create new images: no title by Agnes Donnadieu and most of the work of Al Magnus, for instance Le paysagiste II or S飨eresse.

Please remember, that the rating system commits us to give negative votes too. That doesn't mean that I was desperately looking for something I could pan or someone I could give a roasting in order to make myself feel better. To be honest, rating someone's work below average is pretty hard for me. But I thought it was a good idea to raise my voice about an aspect of photography that shouldn't be executed without care. Sorry that it hit your work.

Kind regards, Martin

Lee, with all the reservations it is still a creative work, and I judge it as such. We learn all the time and progress slowly with every passing day. Continue, skills are there. Pnina

I accept your position. I don't agree that this image, even with the limitations and manipulations deserves a 'below average' rating. Many are cruel in the name of 'honesty'. What's the point of attacking me this way? - I don't take any of these ratings personally but find it all very revealing. I wish you well.

Cheers,

Lee

This is a great shot that is very well composed. The sky is too clearly manipulated and is quite rough along the horizon. If that were smoothed out I think this would be very strong.

I lived in Paris for a short while back in the mid eighties before going on to Marseille and then again onto Avignon.

I think was using an F301 back then, what ever it was I had it stolen soon after along with my negatives, films, some clothes, and about 3000 francs at that time around 500 dollars.

Glad to see that you managed to hold onto your camera and still retain your images.

This is a great shot and whereas some may say that you have pushed the editing I say for your first step into digital it's 'Spot On!'

Remember there are always different horses for different courses so if you can't please them be satisfied that at least you can tease them :-)

When I come to the states you will be the first person that I hope to visit due to the passion we share.

Regards

Thanks again for the encouragement. This was a pivotal image for me. With a borrowed digital camera and an old dream this is what I found.

Thanks Morgan Monet and eyefull tower films for the amazing trip of a lifetime.

I'm still a buzzin'

cheers

Worth about as much as the number of his own images he's so amply uploaded for our consideration. If the written word is all Martin is willing to share maybe his own self portrait shouldn't show him with a camera in hand! Possibly a pen, pencil or keyboard in hand would be more apropos?

Solid digital manipulation, which enhances an already superb perspective of Paris from above. This image is very successful in the transformation of the original subject to a marvellous image and rendering of a new, "Brave New World". Not hokey, or obviously manipulated, it provokes the mind into accepting new and previously unknown visual possibilities. Isn't that is what creating exciting imagery is all about? (Notice I said creating, rather than recording imagery). Well done, on many levels!

One of my photography teachers, Andre Gallant, has a whole presentation from this place. But Your image in a single frame tells me so much !

p.s. I wonder how You would like my image called the Fourth dimension)
