schafer 0 Posted August 25, 2005 Click,Click,Click Whirrrrrrrrrrrrrr! Goes the sound of my fly reel as this guy takes off with my clouser fly plus 150 yds of fly line and backing. I quickly palmed the rim of the reel only to get my knuckels rapped but eventualy bringing the frieght trian to a screeching halt. I saw out in the distance a large whirlpool of water, a head, and tailfin a couple feet back being illuminated by the rising sun. I gulped and yelled holy shnikes! Standing on a slick bed of kelp I pulled back on my rod whipped his head around and began the retrieve. He wanted no part of that and went for deep sea. After ten minutes or so we had both tired. Upon his tiring he was just below me slightly out of reaching distance to pick him up by his mouth, I grabbed the leader and tried to haul him out of the water. His last line of resistance was a quick shaking of his head and snap broke my line and he dropped into the water with a loud splash. In the next passing moments I was sure I had lost him until a violent wave had lifted the tired fish up onto a bed of kelp. Seizing this opportunity I threw my fly rod down and lepped on top him and vigorously put him him in a headlock as if struggling with a lion. Having him in my grasp I grabbed him with both hands and held him up facing the shore, gave a victory cry, Yeah baby! hoping for someone to see or here me and relish in our duel, perhaps tell the story of a wild man whom wrestled with a fish. No one was there. Link to comment

schafer 0 Posted August 26, 2005 Thank you for the comment and for reading my story. Funny thing is I caught one an inch larger than this one the same day yet I choose not to post the picture because the story was not as fantastic. Link to comment
