Good choice on the crop, the image is very powerful.

Good range of values! I know it's tough to do with African American skin tones. Its simplicity adds to its power. Good job!

When photographing black men, let the main light just skim accross the face. Sharpen the final image a bit and you'll get the range of skin tones from the mottling of the highlights against the darker skin. Not sure I'm explaining this well.

Very good portrait. Only negative is the burnt out highlights on the bridge of the nose.

If I were to do this again I would put a little powder on the nose, but only a touch.
