andrew robertson
Hi! I recently bought a few new lenses, and would like to test them for my own purposes. I have a laser printer that outputs at 1200x1200 DPI, and I think this is easily sufficient to print my own test charts. The problem is FINDING those test charts in vector form. Does anyone have any idea where to get a variety of different chart files for free? I have searched up and down the net, and here on photo.net, with little success. I have encountered the occasional raster format chart, but the output from my printer isn't all that hot. Thanks a lot!
maxz
What kind of chart are you looking for? Postscript is really a simple programming language, although it is stack based so it is a bit "backwards" for most people (think HP-48 calculator). After reading the Postscript Language Reference Manual (just the operator chapter, chapter 8) I could easily create simple Postscript documents myself. It is really simple to create a set of repeating lines with different width and spacing. If you feel that hacking postscript is something you don't feel like doing, I can see if I have the time to construct such a chart given that I get some instructions on how you want it to look. andrew robertson
I'm familiar with Postscript. It's great! What I am looking for are ISO or USAF test charts that have already been created and are offered for download. These charts were designed for resolution and contrast testing. ted_kostek
Norman Koren has developed a set of lens test charts. They are not the USAF charts. Norman threw out all the theory and developed his own charts from scratch. They are available in pdf. bobatkins
There's a PS version of a USAF 1951 clone here on photo.net at http://www.photo.net/learn/optics/
