Rollieflex repair: any reason not to send to NJ?

Friends,

I bought a used 6008i last year and have put several rolls through it

since then. The images are inconsistent at best. Most completely

blown out from overexposure, others completely or slightly out of

focus and so on. I have been most careful, using tripod, locking the

mirror and double checking exposure settings with a handheld. So I am

going to send it to someone for a CLA and evaluation. I will include

some typical images as well. I have read the archives and have

collected the names of several well recommended techs to talk to. Are

people hesitant about sending cameras back to Rollei in NJ for repair

work? What is the advantage of using a private repair person once the

camera is off warranty? I am in Maine and would rather deliver the

camera personally to talk with the tech rather than send it. Any

suggestions for good guys in the Northeast? Many thanks.

PS: I have the Symmar 90mm, and do not use a hood givn the recessed

design of the lens. Might this help the problem I have with chronic

over exposure?

I would be comfortable with sending my Rollei to their repair center in NJ. The know the stuff well, and they send a written estimate (in Pdf) before setting out to repair or do CLA. I think CLA should cost about $100-$125. Send your back/lens and the camera, and they will check all of them. They are very efficient.

Symmar 90mm should not need a hood anyways. And that is rarely a cause of overexposure. What are you checking the exposure settings with? I rarely rely on 6008i's metering. So I always carry a light meter and/or a spotmeter. I suppose you are shooting slides.

One thing you could easily do is shoot with some other camera as well, and then compare the results.
