robert_meyers
Hello all, I recently jumped on a small bandwagon to buy an Olympus E-1. I will be putting some of my stuff on ebay and selling it (EOS3/7E/Lenses/Flash/etc), but I have found some interesting points. I have the E-1, 14-54mm, 50-200mm and SHLD-1. Now I went out and ran through a thousand shots of BS. Just trying to learn the cameras controls. Then, I go to Sea World, and shoot around a thousand shots there (mostly 2 MP JPG). I go through all the pictures, delete those I did not like from first glance (about 300), and put the camera away. Last night I did about 50 junk product shots for a quick auction (no flash yet), and today about 180 shots. Now I charged the battery in the hand grip once. Prior to the first use (actually, Samys Camera precharged it by my request, and the charger is still packaged). Mainly I use C-AF. Now some questions: How many shots do other people get on this heinous battery? Is there anyway to check shutter counts? Do the different settings (I have noise reduction on), and pixel count change battery usage? Does the battery meter just go to dead, or does it show when you are down to half? Mine still shows full. Oddities and ramblings...
hans_h._siegrist
There are not many E-1 users in this environment, mostly Canon country as is. You will get answers to all your questions over at dpreview on the Olympus SLR forum where plenty of E-1 owners share their experience. As far as I know, the BLL-1 is good for more than a thousand pictures before a recharge. Cheers!
peter_bury1
Hi Robert, A little off topic here, but I'm thinking of making a similar move - I've been looking at getting rid of all my heavy glass (doesn't go with trips with a growing family) and investing in something more compact and digital. I tried an E-1 recently and was instantly smitten by it. I'd be interested in your experiences of the move to Oly. BTW, if you want, send any reply to my e-mail (in my profile) rather than posting. robert_meyers
Check this out, it was done on like day 2 of owning the camera. Day three I took a thousand photos. I will be doing an extension of this in a week or two. The camera is awesome. Oh, and as an aside, 11 photos after this post I got a battery warning. edwin_907
I have had an E-1 since early January, and you just have to get the 11-22 lens. If you like a wide angle zoom, you will absolutely love it. When Olympus comes out with the "pro series zooms" (35-150mm, f2.8 & 14-42.5mm f2.0 ??) next year, they and the 11-22 will probably be the lens I'll carry in a kit. As far as the battery capacity with the hand grip, 850 to 1100 shots depending on how much you use the LCD.
