saso_cvetkovski
I need advise, for Wireless Flash Photography with 550EX. I have problem with turning the Master Flash 550EX OFF. I reed the Canon Instruction for speedlite 550EX and follow the steps but with no success. Always the master unit fire with the slaves units Canon Instruction Page 57: Master Flash ON / OFF This setting ( Master Flash OFF ) prevents the master unit from firing a flash . It can still transmit wireless signals to trigger the slave units. Can somebody help me with advise where can be the problem (I use canon eos 1V in E-TTL mode with 1master and 2 slaves all 550EX)
steve_dunn2
The communication with the slave units happens via light, so even with the flash set not to flash, it still emits some light (enough for communication - shouldn't be enough to affect the actual lighting). Are you sure that's not what you're seeing?
bob_keen1
Steve, Unlike the RC transmitter, the 550 uses an optical pulse. I had the same question. What you're seeing is this communication and it actually goes off before the shutter is open, just like the preflash works. This is my understanding.
