Economical flash bracket

Can anyone recommend an economical flash bracket that is useful for

macro photography? I've got an N90s and an SB-28 with off-camera

cord, and a 105mm AF-D Nikkor; I just want something I can use to

keep my hands free for a reflector. I can't spend a lot of money

right now, and the Wimberly system that I was looking at is $210

minimum (counting the camera plate). Thanks for suggestions.

Make one.

Scrap plexiglas or lexan (acrylic or polycarbonate, generically) sheet, if you can find either, is inexpensive and easily worked. If you can't find scrap plastic, go to a lumberyard/home center and get some wooden molding. The flash arms for my Speed Graphic's macro flash bracket came from Home Depot. 1/4" x 20 tpi screws are inexpensive. Flash shoes are cheap; try A Camera Store In Grass Valley, who have all sorts of useful stuff.

Decide where you want the flash to be, relative to the film plane and lens' axis. Then make something that will attach to your camera (by a screw that goes into the tripod socket) and hold it there.

Some cutting and drilling required. Doesn't have to be pretty, doesn't even have to be perfectly rigid. End of discussion. Just do it.
