albert knapp md
I just received two black half cases for my R8 bodies. Luigi and I have been working on a particular design that allows one to use the self-timer on the back as well as a rapid-release. How did we do this? The cases have large cut out areas in the back that allow one to open up and use the self timer. The solution for the rapid release is most elegant. The case has a screw on the bottom in order to anchor the camera. This screw has a "female" opening under it that accecpts the "male" portion of the rapid release screw. I used it this afternoon and the half-case is a true joy. Luigi made a few more and I would encourage my fellow R8 or R9 users to contact the Maestro of Rome. paul_neuthaler
Luigi is an interesting character: as they would say in the Eighteenth Century, an "Original." My own opinion is that his prices are obscene; his shipping costs are a rip-off.
john_woo3
Hihi Albert, any chance to post some photos of the case please??
chris_m2
I have bought a half case for a IIIF with a strap from Luigi. I found the case to be of the finest quality and he was a pleasure to deal with. In terms of shipping he advised of the most economical method and it was very fair. ted_kozak
I purchased a black half case from Luigi for one of my M3s last month. I got the one that the carrying strap is attached to the case instead of the camera lugs. I payed $225.00 with shipping. Now let me tell you that I KNOW leather. And when I saw the case, I realised that it was worth every cent! You pay for what you get! The case is of the very highest quality of leather and workmanship. I will get a few more in the future. I can always make a dollar, but not high quality camera cases.
dan flanders
I have been working with leather; cases, belts, holsters, etc for the last forty years and consider Luigis work to be absolutely first class. I couldnt produce the quality and variety he does for what he charges. His stuff is practically made to order compare that to Leicas price for their factory stuff. You get what you pay for and with Luigi you get the best.
johnmarkpainter
Paul, If you see his work in person, the prices start to make sense. jmp
jim_cain
Yes, they are expensive. But, where is the competition? They fit perfectly, the construction and leather quality is flawless. His service and shpping is more than OK. If you have an "M" --What real choice do you have? Don't ponder,.just do it!--I have no interest in this vendor. michael_kastner
I'm against obscenity and rip-offs too, but mention of Luigi being that, here, is sh*t, man! <p>(a) Luigi's prices are more than okay, and shipping is even less expensive. My case's "shipment" costed about $5 and took about 24 hours. <p>(b) Everything else about Leica is expensive too, but that doesn't seem to affect most us here very much. leicamania
Its really well designed, well made and uses the finest thick leather. If you travel a lot and uses your precious Ms frequently, the half cases will offer unparallel safety and comfort. So far, I have not seen comparable quality for the same price. Consider this, I've drop my cameras twice and the cases have paid for themselves a few time over. You need to see one to understand these. paul_neuthaler
Okay, Luigi lovers. I will reconsider. What's the best one to get for my incomparable M4?
brett_davis1
Does anyone know if Luigi makes a half-case (or full case) for screwmount Leicas that might be good for the 0-Series? It would need to have straps that attach to the case since there are no lugs on the body. I would like something that will allow me to use external finders, rangefinders, etc., which the case that comes with the camera won't allow unless you don't mind having a big top cover flapping around all the time. I have looked at Luigi's website before but find it confusing. Thanks for any advice.
stephen_w.
I bought a clean (glass perfect) LTM 35, 2.8 Summaron from Luigi for just over $400 including shipping. The BEST service from ANY dealer I have ever had.
michael_kastner
Paul, the best way is: <br>(a) look at his website and choose exactly what you want. There are many different varieties, even for Rs, Ms and IIIs etc, i.e. with or without strap, hard or soft leather, colour, etc, <br>(b) note that you can choose your own style, e.g. with or without ASA-cut-out at the back (I prefer no cut, as it's sturdier and IMO the ASA-dial-touch is unnecessary), <br>© ditto slight rounded-out-ness under the VF position to the left (of the back), and <br>(d) Any other wishes, or non-wishes... just mail what you want and he'll/they'll tell you what they can offer and how much it'll cost. kevin m.
His work looks fantastic, but I don't get the point of a case for an M body. What do you do with the damned thing when it's time to reload?

grg
<i>"His work looks fantastic, but I don't get the point of a case for an M body. What do you do with the damned thing when it's time to reload?"</i><p> I use the Luigi case with a built-in grip. The case protects the body. The built-in grip feels like a natural extension of the camera body. For me, the removal/install of the case has become as routine as removing/installing the bottom plate and adds 10-15 seconds to the whole film replacement process. The 'damned thing' goes into my pant/coat pocket or F5XB bag, or I set it aside while changing film - really guys . . . it's not a big deal.<p> <img src="http://www.photo.net/bboard/image.tcl?bboard_upload_id=16407284"><p>
furcafe
You can fit your Leica + Noctilux in your pants? Just kidding . . . I'm sure you're referring to the case itself (I hope). Although I don't routinely use a 1/2-case, they can serve as a grip (I have 1 of the old extra-wide Leitz case w/the slot for the intensifier for the selenium Leica-meter) if you need 1 & also help muffle the shutter sound if you're shooting in a very quiet setting (e.g., theatre or classical concert). -------------- "The 'damned thing' goes into my pant/coat pocket or F5XB bag, or I set it aside while changing film - really guys . . . it's not a big deal." albert knapp md
Changing film is esy. The half case comes right off and may add an additional... 10 seconds to your "TURN AROUND" time!
carl_mclaren
I sent Luigi an email one day saying I needed another 1/2 case because my wife refuses to use the motor on our M6 and the other case I bought was for the motor. The next day around noon Fed-Ex showed up with it and I live in Florida USA and he's in Italy ! Now that's service. He also includes some little gift and his great box. The quality is superb and when you're used to Leica prices, his prices are reasonable.
