nikos peri
Are there any members here in the vicinity that could help me out on getting LF (4x5") film either in Milan, or reliably by mail order in the EU? I've tried many stores (UFM, FCF) and they keep next to nothing in stock. I requested some Tri-X and have been waiting since Christmas. There's got to be a decent distributor somewhere! marco_frigerio
CiaoI'm from Milan too but, sadly, I have to buy my large format film supplies anytime I travel in the USA.Anyway it happened that while in Italy I needed large format films, and in these cases I had better luck contacting directly Fuji Italia or Kodak Italia instead of the "pro" supppliers (Smaf, Fcf, Unionfotmarket). Kodak Italia: Cinisello Balsamo (MI) - Via Matteotti Giacomo, 64 Tel. 02.660281. Ask for Luca Lo Giudice and tell him that I was me to give you his name. Fuji Italia: Milano (MI) - Via De Sanctis, 41 Tel. 02.895821 You can try with some EU suppliers too.Robert White has a lot of Fuji and Kodak films in stock, he's really a great guy, I often shop with him, highly reccomended: http://www.robertwhite.co.uk/filmf.htm http://www.robertwhite.co.uk/filmk.htm Or you can try in France: http://www.prophot.com (they have lf films for sure)http://www.galerie-photo.net (but I don't know if they sell lf films) If you need more informations contact me in private, so that we can write in italian. Sandeha Lynch
For mail-order, you can try www.jessops.com in the UK. They don't have everything, but it's handy for comparison. I've used them several times and they are 'ok'.
nikos peri
Grazie Marco! Interessante vedere un Milanese che NON scatta in casa... o dovrei dire un altro Milanese!<p>And thank you also for pointing out that Jessops could be a viable alternative. nikos peri
Nicola I'll be in Italy the last 2 weeks of April. I can bring any LF film and send it to you from my apartment (just south of Florence). If you're interested please contact me directly, off this forum. tim_atherton9
hans - still not sure what the issue is? i'm not at all sure there is any "required ettiquette" about language and i don't notice the moderators jumping in with an "english only" dictate, whioch would be utter foolishness. i think the only problem is in the minds of those who raise it. personally i feel it's nice to have a bit of an international flavour

andre_noble4
Hans, you related/know a man by the name of 'Marvin Berkhout'? (Dutchman transplanted to Los Angeles, California appx. 40-ish)- Just curious.
luciano_capitanio1
In general it's right to use English (even thought mine is really poor). But that was a little practical question between two Milan living italians..so it seems right to write in Italian. A suggest: if you come in Italy with your LF camera...bring yours films too!!! hans_berkhout
I like international flavour too! I learned 6 languages in school, spoke/read them fluently. On this forum I have a problem with 7 reponses in a row being in a foreign lanuage. It's only common courtesy to communicate on a forum in the language that is understood by the majority of participants. A few words/remarks in a foreign language is great, but a flavour (garlic?) should not make up the entire meal as far as I am concerned. I'm originally from Amsterdam, moved to Calgary in 71. (It's always interesting to hear the reactions if you speak French here!). Yes I'll bring 100 sheets of Tmax100 Readyload! Good shooting to all and practice your language skills. marco_frigerio
Hans, I have to agree with Luciano, this was a very pratical question between two (now three) italians that are complaining about how it's hard to be an LF photographer here in Italy, and even if I usually post in english in this particular case it was easier and faster to give some quick informations in italian: as you know sometimes it's hard to "translate" some concepts or idiomatic forms in a foreign language...btw, have a nice shooting in Tuscany!!! enrico__
Being Italian, I actually found all of this very amusing.. :o) The best bit of advice was in english.. 'bring your own films if going to italy to shoot' Every got that so all is good! che vita... Enrico
nikos peri
Sorry to all offended by the fall into italian. I'm actually much more at ease with english, but as it was a thread I doubted would interest many people outside Italy... I'll gladly translate any part anyone feels they may have missed out on, should you also be looking for LF film in Italy AND are having trouble saying "Foogee Veellvia in dee-eh-chee per do-dee-chee"
robert_davis2
You know what would be usefull is a list of photographic phrases. Some how I doubt the usual tourist phrase books will have words for shutter, film holder or even tripod. So how about: Sheet film == PELLICOLE PIANE ? Okay I started.
