diana
I have yet another "series E" question. What lenses work with the Nikon EM camera? My brother has one and I was thinking of giving him some of my old Nikon mount vivitar lenses for Christmas. (a 135mm and a 200mm if memory serves) I'm guessing that they're AI lenses but it is possible that they're non-AI. (I'll need to check.) Will AI or non-AI lenses work with a Nikon EM? I'm also looking for a cheap flash unit for that Nikon EM. Any suggestions? Thanks!
richard_oleson
AI and AIS (including Series E) lenses work on the EM. These are, basically, all of the lenses with "nostrils" in the fork on the aperture ring, plus the ones (Series E) that have no fork on them. Most autofocus lenses will also work.

SLR Lens Mount Identification Guide

rick :)=

richard_oleson
ps: Since you're looking at Vivitars, there may be some detail differences in appearance, so... in the photo above, you can see that the black outer ring (which is the aperture ring) has a raised segment on it up at the top. This raised section is the part that actually makes the lens work on the EM... so, if your lenses are stepped like this they will work; if the back end of the aperture ring is smooth all the way around, they won't. As for a flash, if you don't want it "dedicated" (in the EM, this wouldn't do much anyway), any standard hot-shoe electronic flash will work. I think there were some decent looking Vivitar flashes at the photo counter at WalMart for about $20. :)=
straightarm
If they are Vivitar lenses look for "N/AI" on the lens mount. If they have this then they are AI lenses. If they have "N/F" then they are not. N/AI = Nikon AI N/F - Nikon F Simon In black and white, everyone's a hero!
