jan_svoboda
I am kinda tired of performance of my Canon 24-85/3.5-4.5. So I am looking for any replacement. Not having money for Canon's 24-70 2.8 I was wondering how good/bad is Tamron's 28-75/2.8?? And if it would do better job that my current lens...Thanks for any rsponses... dave_nelson___atlanta__ga
I am using this lens along with the Tamron 17-35mm f/2.8 XR Di LD. I am very happy with both lenses on my 10D. I suggest ordering one from B&H or similar and giving it a try; return it if it doesn't meet your needs. The PopPhoto review really sold me. http://www.popphoto.com/article.asp?section_id=2&article_id=
night73
Jan, I have been using one for a while now. However I mostly end up with my Canon 17-40 on my D30, but if I want just one lens I take the Tamron. Great lens even wide open in my opinion. richard thompson www.fotoz
I've recently upgraded my 28-105 mk II (roughly same optical quality as your 24-85) to the tamron 28-75 and I've owned the 24-85 in the past too. I couldn't afford the 24-70L, nor wanted to carry a 1kg chunk of glass around. It is noticably sharper than the 28-105 mk2 / 24-85, and being f2.8, in my opinion, more versatile. From my research, it is optically the nearest mid range zoom to to an L zoom. The 24-70L is £1000 in the UK, and I picked up the tamron for £215 !!! Be warned though, the front element extends quite a way out of the front, and the focus motor is not that quiet. It is well built though and feels sturdy. Basicly if you put optical quality over canon features (USM, FTM etc) when comaparing to the 24-85, your better off with the tamron 28-75. All of my zooms and primes are Canon, except the excellent Tamron 90mm 2.8 macro and the Tamron 28-75...
jmichaelc
Excellent choice and out of my line up: 50mm 1.4 prime Sigma 15-30 3.5-4 Canon 28-135 USM IS 3.5-5.6 Tamron 28-75 2.8 It's my favorite lens - sharp and well built! The AF noise is very low, it's very hard to compete with Canon's "almost completely silent" USM. You will not be disappointed.
wilfred_m_rand
I posted this link in another post (Popular Photography's review, link to a pdf reprint of the published article and sqf chart). yakim_peled1
Are primes out of the question ? I was thinking about 24/2.8 or 28/2.8 + 50/1.8 + 85/1.8 or 100/2. Are they within your budget ? They are much cheaper than the 24-70/2.8 but about double the 28-75/2.8. Happy shooting , Yakim.
