Canon 500/4 IS - Protective Neoprene Lens Cover?

The cheapest option I can think of is some camo gaffer's tape:

Personally, I would go with the neoprene sleeves. $99 is not that much to spend on a $5000+ lens, and it would provide more protection against dents and dings. You can get similar product a different version/pattern from Leonard Lee Rue:

I can't comment on how well they work, as I don't have a 500/4.
