scott_fairbairn
I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge of the current parking situation there. Can you park on the road ? Or at the restaurant? It would be nice to get in there before 8:30 am. Thanks
bill_oneill
Scott, I usually ask at the restaurant the evening before a week or so of early mornings. Generally I have lunch there 3 or 4 times during the week. I have never had a problem doing it this way. It only makes sense to reward those that help you. nature-photography
Scott - Not to rain on anyone's hopes, but I have seen some reports that Shark Valley has been pretty dead this year due to drought. Very strange, since it was exactly the opposite last year when everyone was raving about how good it was (myself included). Possibly someone else here can confirm? jim_greenfield
Scott, I was there two mornings last week and it was very disappointing. Got there about 0745 hrs and parked in front of the gate until opening time with the idea of shooting at the ponds near the gate - however, nothing there. Very little action on the main trail with the exception of good numbers of green backed herons plus the odd egret. I was told parking on the road is a definite no-no as the Indian police are red hot at handing out tickets Jim
chris_migliaccio
I was there this morning at 7am to scout out parking for a bike trip there next weekend with my students. Lots of No Parking signs about 50 m both east and west of the access road on the south shoulder. The one car there (not a good sign for photographers) was parked on the north side of US 41 and unloading a family of bikers incl. kids crossing the highway (!). Suggest parking on the south shoulder of US 41 past the No Parking signs and walking in. PS - a ton of action at Anhinga Trail and Eco Pond in ENP-proper. - Chris Migliaccio
gloria_hopkins
I haven't been to Shark Valley recently but have heard bad reports. Anhinga Trail, however, is pretty great. 45 minutes away...
