catcher
I ran across a Canon FD 400mm 4.5 lens in good shape for about $200 less than I've seen it elsewhere. The only thing is that it's missing the tripod collar. I have a Canon FD 300 5.6 with a Tripod collar. You just unscrew it and the collar comes off. Would that collar work on the 400 4.5? Thanks. John Crowe
I don't know, but you will love this lens - extremely sharp!
alan_swartz
Aaron, I think this very discussion happened a few weeks ago on this forum. I seem to remember that someone said the 300/5.6 SSC collar was a bit tight, but would fit. You might search up that thread.
mph
If it's that good of a price, I'd say to go for it no matter what. I bought a 300mm f/4 without the collar (which I think is the same collar as the 400mm f/4.5), and bought one from a repair shop for $20 or so. Saw one on eBay recently for about the same. It may not be instantaneous, but if you end up needing the collar, you'll find one eventually for a lot less than the $200 difference!
